MAKING A DIFFERENCE

In class, Mr William Lin has built a great chemistry among his students. It does not matter if he is teaching a class that is impressively growing in number, or that he is teaching a subject that is both intricate and intimidating. With his 10 years of tutoring and achieving academic excellence being one of NUS Faculty of Science Dean’s List, Mr William Lin knocks it out of the park as a Chemistry teacher. And while doing so, has debunked the myth that Chemistry is a subject to be feared.

He may have pursued his Ph.D. and just sit back for a job with a steady income. Instead, he followed his heart where he is most happy – teaching. Stemming from his passion, Making Sense Learning Centre Pte Ltd was then formed in 2011 that specialises in Chemistry tuition for ‘A’ Level students.

It may be daunting at first, with concerns about where to get students and how to get income during school holidays. However, the initial issues were soon overcome, as Mr William Lin created better and top-notch materials, found a good location at Middle Road whilst providing a good experience for students. By delivering lectures like performing, he ensures that expectations are exceeded and where students learn easily and effectively. Making Sense students have been consistently producing exceptional results of approximately 90% As and Bs for their A’ Level.

“Teaching was to make a difference,” shares Mr William Lin, who has garnered many awards, including a “Teaching Assistance Award” while at NUS and has been recognized as a Super Tutor in Singapore. With his unique way of teaching, he hits all the right spot in making it both an enjoyable and empowering experience for students, as he intends to incorporate more subjects like Science at Making Sense Centre.
